Phoenix is located in the Valley of the Sun in central Arizona, at the edge of the Sonoran desert. It is a thriving metropolis that includes the cities: Scottsdale, Tempe, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, and Buckeye, to name a few.
Phoenix is best known for its banking and high tech industries, excellent conference facilities, hotels, tourism, recreation, an abundance of water, and extreme heat in the summer.
The Phoenix Chapter (officially the Arizona Chapter) had it's first meeting on March 14, 1972. Starting with 21 members, it hit it's stride with 117 members in 1987. Over the last 30 years, the Phoenix Chapter has made some significant contributions to ARMA and RIM: "Chapter of the Year" in 1988-1989.
Had two past chapter presidents hold the office of Vice President, Pacific Region VI. Those were: Marty Richelsoph (1984-1985), and Gabe Forsberg (1989-1990). Marty Richelsoph went on to serve as Executive Vice President (1988-1989), and as President of ARMA International (1989-1990).
Hosted the ARMA International conference called the "Phoenix Fiesta" in 1979.
Past chapter president, Don Tate, served on the committee for the merger of ARMA with AREA (Association of Records Executives and Administrators) in 1975.
